Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 2025
Bill Divider AI (“we”, “our”, or “us”) is operated at billdivider.com. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have over it.
1. What we collect
- Account info — when you sign in via Clerk, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo. We do not store your password.
- Bill text — when you upload a PDF, we extract its text and send it to an AI model for parsing. We store the structured result (line items, totals, vendor name) in our database so you can access your history. We do not store the original PDF file.
- Payment handles — if you voluntarily enter your Venmo or Zelle handle, we store it so it appears on share links you send to others.
- Session data — anonymous sessions are tied to a browser cookie so your progress is saved across page refreshes. Sessions expire after 30 days of inactivity.
- Usage data — we log the number of bill scans per user per month to enforce plan limits. We do not sell this data.
- Payment info — if you subscribe to a paid plan, your card details are handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
2. How we use your data
- To provide the bill-splitting service and display your history.
- To generate share links so group members can see what they owe.
- To enforce free-tier session limits and manage paid subscriptions.
- To improve accuracy — we may review anonymised scan outputs to improve our AI prompts. We never share identifiable bill data externally.
3. Third-party services
- AI parsing service — bill text is processed by a third-party AI API to extract line items and totals. Their privacy policy applies to data processed by their API.
- Clerk — handles authentication. See Clerk’s privacy policy.
- Stripe — processes subscription payments. See Stripe’s privacy policy.
- Replit — our hosting platform. Data is stored in the US.
4. Data retention
Bill history is retained for as long as your account is active. Anonymous session data is deleted after 30 days of inactivity. You can delete individual bill records from your dashboard at any time. To delete your entire account and all associated data, email privacy@billdivider.com.
5. Your rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by emailing privacy@billdivider.com. We will respond within 30 days. If you are in the EU/UK you have additional rights under GDPR/UK GDPR — please mention this in your request.
6. Cookies
We use a single first-party session cookie to maintain your anonymous session. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. If you sign in, Clerk may set additional authentication cookies.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email to registered users. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance.
